Guitar No. 1 (aka, The Riker)
Materials:
My first instrument, built at the Colorado School of Lutherie.
Style: Dreadnaught
Soundboard: 2A Sitka Spruce
Back/Sides: Indian Rosewood
Neck: Honduran Mahogany
Headstock Veneer: Indian Rosewood
Fingerboard: African Ebony
Bridge: Indian Ebony
Rosette: Plastic Herringbone
Bindings: Black Plastic
End Wedge and Heel Cap: Blue stain pine!
I cut my lutherie teeth with this instrument, and with the expert instruction at the School, created a classic-looking guitar that sounds way better than anybody’s first attempt has a right to. This guitar was modeled after a 1936 Martin D-28, with certain modifications to make it functional in today’s world. For anyone wishing to have an unforgettable experience I would highly recommend taking this class.
